    RVs in Kehl

RV rental Kehl: Discover Kehl with campstar

The town of Kehl in Baden-Württemberg is a perfect destination for a trip with an RV due to its beautiful location and numerous sights. It is located directly on the Rhine opposite Strasbourg and Karlsruhe is also not far away.

Freiburg im Breisgau is also just a stone's throw away. Kehl itself is the cultural centre of the Ortenau district and has been a major town since 1971. Due to its location on the French border, the town has unfortunately often been involved in conflicts and has therefore been destroyed several times over the centuries.

The town centre is 3 km from the mouth of the Kinzig river. In former times, Kehl was therefore also an important harbour town. The citizens achieved a certain prosperity through supra-regional trade.

Johann Jakob Friedrich Weinbrenner, a well-known German master builder of the classicist period, played a decisive role in shaping today's townscape. Weinbrenner was born in Karlsruhe in 1766. His buildings were mainly inspired by antique buildings from Italy.

A striking feature of his buildings are the columns in front of the main entrance. Many of his classicist buildings can still be admired, especially in the city centre. The centre also has a lively shopping street with numerous small cafés and restaurants.

Holidays in Kehl Destination 1 - Bridge of the Two Banks

The Bridge of Two Banks, also known as the Passerelle des Deux Rives, crosses the Rhine and connects Germany with France. It is for pedestrians and cyclists only and was designed as part of a regional garden show. Marc Micram, an architect from Paris, created this work of art as a symbol of the cross-border friendship between the cities.

On 13 April 2004, the bridge was ceremonially inaugurated and opened to the public. In 2009, NATO heads of government met here to celebrate its 60th anniversary. A walk across the bridge is especially worthwhile shortly before sunset.

RV rental Destination 2 - Silver fir tower in Kehl

In 2003, a 44-metre-high observation tower was erected in the garden of the two banks. The tower's scaffolding consists of three enormous silver fir trunks, which come from Nordrach. A steel net stabilises the wooden construction.

A stairway on the outside of the steel net takes visitors to the viewing platforms. The ascent is only recommended for people who are free from giddiness. The effort is rewarded with a great view of Strasbourg and the Rhine.

RV rental Destination 3 - Auen Wilderness Trail in Kehl

This 2.5-kilometre trail is fun for adults and children. Countless wooden bridges and footbridges lead across the enchanting floodplain landscape, which is still regularly flooded by the Rhine. Other attractions include a balancing course and a small observation tower.

The hike takes about two hours. Halfway along the route there is a very nice rest area. After heavy rainfall, it is possible that individual sections may not be passable.
