RV rental in Münster: Discover Münster with campstar

The Westphalian city of Münster is always worth a trip by RV. The town can look back on a long and exciting history and has much to offer travellers of all ages. The historic old town in particular attracts many visitors.

From 1815 until the end of the Second World War, Münster was the capital of the Prussian province of Westphalia. Now the city has more than 300,000 inhabitants and, with over 65,000 students, is one of Germany's largest university cities. The area is also known for being very bicycle-friendly.

In 799 Pope Leo III founded the bishopric of Münster together with Charlemagne, and the city is still the domicile of the Catholic bishop today. The first bishop of Münster was consecrated in Cologne Cathedral in 805.

Münster lies on the River Aa between the Ruhr area and Osnabrück, 15 km from its mouth on the River Ems in the Westphalian Lowland Bay. This bay is known for its sand deposits, which play a decisive role in shaping the landscape. One of the most beautiful excursion destinations in the region is the Vorberg hill, which lies in the middle of an idyllic nature reserve.

RV rental in Münster - The best time to travel

The best time to rent RV in Münster is summer. The months of June, July and August are the warmest. The RV season starts in May, when there is no more frost at night and everything starts to blossom.

RV rental in Münster - Temperatures

In July, the warmest month of the year, temperatures reach 25 degrees Celsius, ideal conditions for a camping holiday. January, February and March are still too cold with temperatures of 4 to 10 degrees. You can even expect frost and snow until March.

From April onwards it gets steadily warmer. In May, the landscape is already in full bloom and the trees are green again. Spring is a good time for an active holiday. In summer you can swim in the rivers and lakes. The season ends in autumn, when the thermometer drops below 10 degrees Celsius again at the end of October.

Rain falls quite regularly in Münster throughout the year. On average, it rains 13 to 20 days a month. Winter is wetter than summer. In January there can be 20 rainy days, while in June there are 14. So it's worth packing rain gear for a holiday in Münster all year round.

RV road trip Münster - Sights to visit

In and around the city there are numerous buildings worth seeing and also several nature reserves. Architecturally, the metropolis is very interesting, as new buildings can be found right next to old ones. This mix of styles has a refined and varied effect. In the centre, there are buildings from the 12th century, while a little further out, post-modern buildings dominate.

RV destination 1 - St. Lamberti Church

This Roman Catholic church stands in the centre of the city and is the northern end of Prinzipalmarkt. It is one of the most important sacred buildings in Germany and was built in late Gothic style.

The tower is 90 metres high. The high altar and the stained glass windows are beautiful. No holidaymaker should miss a visit to this church.

RV destination 2 - The Prinzipalmarkt

The Prinzipalmarkt is a very special street in the city centre. In addition to this market, there is also the Rye Market and the Fish Market. Particularly impressive are the gabled houses, whose gables have different designs.

The builders of the time outdid each other with imaginative ideas. On the north side is the Lambertikirche, while to the south the Stadthausturm can be admired. One of the most beautiful buildings is the historic town hall.

RV destination 3 - Lake Aasee

This lake is the city's local recreation area. At this reservoir you can hire boats or go hiking along the winding paths. The green spaces invite you to have a picnic outdoors and the jetties are a great place to sit and let your legs dangle.

The shore is 5 km long in total, and you can complete the circuit in about an hour. You can also feed the ducks or ride your bike. Münster is a very bike-friendly city.

Tip - renting bikes in the city: You can rent or buy bikes at Münster GT-Bike. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Holidays in Münster - The best campsites

There are not many campsites in Münster, but they are very nice. The following sites are particularly suitable for RVs:

Rent RV - Campsite Münster

This campsite is not only popular with permanent campers. Many of the guests like to come back. The pitches are very clean and offer enough space for a large RV. The sanitary facilities are clean and modern.

The location is another big plus. The site is quite central and you can get to the town quickly. A bread roll service rounds off the overall package.

Campsite Wersewinkel

Wersewinkel is also centrally located and very spacious. Some of the motorhome pitches are located by a small river with water lilies. All in all, this makes the site look very idyllic.

The area for the campervans is large enough for an awning and chairs. The showers and toilets are cleaned regularly and are modern. There is hardly anything to criticise about this site.

RV pitch at Ostbad

This RV campsite is a bit less romantic but very practical. The RV can easily be parked on an asphalted car park. The site itself is very quiet and clean at night.

For a few nights, the site is therefore highly recommended. The city centre can be easily reached on foot or by bike, but there are also regular buses.

Holiday in Münster - How to get there

By plane: Münster/Osnabrück International Airport is about 25 km from the city and is served by most major airlines. Two major bus routes shuttle back and forth between the airport and the city at regular intervals.

By train: Travelling by train is also easy. Most trains arrive at Münster Hauptbahnhof. The station handles over 66,000 people daily.

By car / RV: You can reach the city by car or camper van via the Münster-Süd motorway junction. The A1 and the A43 meet at this junction.

With RV to Münster - Conclusion

A trip to Münster by campervan is definitely worthwhile. The city has many architectural features to offer, as well as a beautiful local recreation area. There is no shortage of sites for a campervan here. However, the campsites in the countryside have more charm than the motorhome site Ostbad. A special highlight is a walk along the Aasee.
