Cumbria, a camping paradise that brags untouched nature, ancient Roman ruins and some of the UK’s finest UNESCO sights.

Experience the ultimate city break. In Cumbria there are no dazzling cities around, only tiny historic hamlets and villages that entice visitors with scents of traditional Cumberland sausages and Grasmere Gingerbread through the doors of family-run restaurants. But don’t stay in town for too long. The English county of Cumbria oozes pristine, untouched nature. We’d recommend renting a campervan to start your new next adventure! Drive a few miles out of town and discover some of the finest landscapes Britain has to offer.

Tailor your route on what suites you and have the time of your life. There is such a wide range of camping and glamping sites for you to choose from in Cumbria to suite everyone’s needs.

Our Top 6 Campsites in Cumbria

For those who fancy a hike though the English wilderness, head to the Lake District. A good campsite to book for hikers is Syke Farm Camping Site. It is situated in the south-west of the national park, right between the Crummock Water and Buttermere Lakes. There are multiple trails wriggling through craggy hills and valleys, jumping over chilly streams with the granite clapper bridges and delving into shady woods. Wake up early and head to High Stile, just a stroll away, to watch the morning mist fade away whilst uncovering the dramatic view of the valley. If you get the chance, go for a bike ride, as this campground has a bicycle rental onsite.

The Waterside House Campsite is an excellent choice for camper families who enjoy water sports and fishing. Its pitches sit rights on the banks of the Ullswater Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in the whole of Cumbria. After a pleasant swim in the lake, pack some Kendal Mint Cakes, get your motorhome ready and go for a picnic. If you wander south towards Keswick, you’ll pass the symbolic Castlerigg stone circle, one of the most visually impressive prehistoric sites in Britain.

Those of you who are Game of Thrones fans can stay at the Dandy Dintmont Caravan and Camping Site. The campsite is located near the Hadrian’s Wall, one of the greatest defensive fortifications of the Roman legions in former Britannia, that inspired George R. R. Martin’s Wall. Even 2,000 years after the wall was built, it’s still in good condition and located north-east of Carlisle. There are also plenty medieval castles nearby for you to visit.

Longing to see the sea? Check out Seacote Park Caravan & Camping, located in the tiny village of St. Bees, all the way west on the coast of the Irish sea. This hamlet is home to some dramatic cliffs that are the trademark of Cumbria windswept and rugged coastline. Seacote Park Caravan & Camping is only some minutes away from the shore.

Cumbria is the perfect place to spend your Christmas this year. Our campstar community recommends staying at the Cove Caravan and Camping Park for the ultimate winter camping experience. Cumbria is not only home to Britain’s Greatest Lakes, but also to many picturesque cross-country skiing trails for both beginners and advanced skiers. Go to the Yad Moss Ski Tow, around an hour's drive east from Keswick. We’d also recommend visiting the area between Lowther Valley and Ullswater lake, where there’s an old Roman road you can ski on. Make sure to check out the megalithic structures and castles on the way. For those who enjoy an adrenalin rush along with some stunning views, take a trek up to St Sunday Crag.

Indulge in the Finest Cumbrian Cuisine

Feel like you’ve exhausted what Cumbria has to offer? If you’ve finally swum in all the lakes, climbed every hill, visited every castle and cycled on every trail, remember that holidays are also about good, hearty food. There’s no better place in the North of England to eat than at the Cottage in the Wood in Keswick. Here, you’ve got to try the Herdwick hogget, Cumbria's native sheep that is central to the local cuisine, which goes amazingly with a glass of red wine. Treat yourself to a piece of Cumberland rum Nicky Pie that combines the sweetness of dates and warming tipsy notes of dark Caribbean rum.

Have we convinced you yet? Book your new adventure, today!

Visit Cumbria and experience its diversity in weather, terrain and landscape. There is no better place to reconnect with nature and discover the glorious and simple pleasure of British life. Dust your tent off, put on your hiking boots, book a pitch at a camping site and start your next adventure with campstar.
