Lake Garda - The holiday paradise that leaves nothing to be desired

Lake Garda is situated in the middle of an enchanting landscape, embedded in the foothills of the southern Alps and the northern Italian lowlands, with diverse tourist possibilities. Gentle bays and beaches, deep blue water and places worth seeing make it a popular destination almost all year round. The holiday region around the lake with its sights and excursion destinations is a leisure paradise where active holidaymakers, senior citizens and families with children get their money's worth.

Popular excursion destinations

Riva del Garda on the northern shore is a "must" for every visitor. The beautiful old town with historical monuments, the spacious harbour and the fresh sea climate characterize the unique flair of this city. Further south, you will find Gardone Riviera and Salò, two destinations that are not only interesting for sailing enthusiasts, but also offer interesting old towns, beautiful hotels, an exquisite gastronomy and exclusive shops. Highlights in Gardone Riviera are the Botanical Garden founded by André Heller and the mausoleum "Vittoriale", a memory of the national poet D'Annunzio. Most seaside resorts with flat beaches can be found in the southern part of Lake Garda, especially around the much-visited health resort of Sirmione. On the eastern side of the lake, close to the tourist resorts of Bardolino and Torri del Benaco, is the town of Garda, the town that gave its name to the lake, with its medieval charm, dreamy coves, splendid villas and a wide range of restaurants. Punta San Vigilio, a peninsula with a chapel, a small port and the "Baia delle Sirene" bay, is particularly beautiful. The holiday region around the lake has a lot to offer: A beautiful nature, active holidays for sportsmen or just relax and let your soul dangle. And those who decide to come here more often can discover the many different facets of the largest Italian lake again and again.

Climate

The northern part of the lake in the Garda-Trentino region which lies between the steep cliffs of an alpine mountain world with a unique flora, dominated by the 2200 m high Monte Baldo massif. The mountain world of the Brescian Alps is ideal for climbing and hiking and the constant wind blowing from the mountains attracts sailors and surfers from far away. The south with its gentle hills and Mediterranean climate is ideal for wine growing and its famous white and red wines. Who doesn't know Bardolino, the grape variety cultivated in the town of the same name on the eastern shore of the lake? Thanks to the favourable climate, on the sunny slopes overlooking the lake you will find extensive olive groves and orchards. Cypresses, palm trees, oleanders and a colourful floral splendour line the mountain paths and invite you to extensive hiking tours or mountain biking.

An Eldorado for Campers

The wide range of campsites around Lake Garda and the mild Mediterranean climate are ideal for holidaymakers travelling in tents and camper vans. Especially families with children can profit from it. A high level of comfort and the good infrastructure of the family-friendly facilities around the lake ensure that you feel at home immediately. In addition, there is the close connection to nature that an overnight stay on a campsite offers. Whether in a tent or motorhome, the pitches are furnished in such a way that no one has to do without the usual domestic comfort. So anyone who prefers camping to staying overnight in a hotel can look forward to a wide range of activities. The Lake Garda region is well known for the many possibilities that camping holidaymakers have to offer. Swimming, sailing, surfing, diving and water skiing are just some of the activities on offer, as well as a relaxing sunbath on one of the pebble beaches on the lake shore. In the evening you can visit the pizzeria on the campsite or one of the many small towns and villages with their picturesque historic buildings and winding alleys. Speciality restaurants, ice-cream parlours and pubs offer tempting treats to suit every taste. Sign-posted hiking trails and mountain bike trails, which stretch out on the heights above the lake, provide variety of beach life and invite you to extensive tours. Picturesque villages, the fascinating beauty of the mountain ranges and mountains and great panoramic views reward the effort. Leisure and aquaparks in Castelnuovo del Garda or Lazise are other recommendable destinations - not only for children, but also for adults.

Where are the most famous campsites?

Large campsites with all amenities can be found around the southern part of the lake in the triangle of Desenzano, Sirmione and Bardolino. If you choose camping in the open air, you will be spoilt for choice between a variety of good and inexpensive offers with sports facilities. City tours to Milan, Verona or Brescia offer themselves from here and round the vacation optimally off.
