Normandy: experience a historic camping holiday in the foot steps of the French past

Looking for your next dream destination? So, why Normandy? Although this region might be known for its temperamental and relatively rainy weather, it’s also extremely popular among tourists from all over Europe. Why should Normandy be your ideal camping destination? Keep on reading and find out – all will be revealed! 😉

Jokes aside, when the whole of France was suffering from the heat wave of summer 2019, Normandy was a paradisal island. Sunny and hot just the way it should be - not too much, not too little.

Normandy, the French cultural hub

Normandy is a magnificent French Département rich in culture and history. Divided between land and sea, the region bordering the English Channel was founded by Rollo, the Viking chieftain who founded the Duchy of Normandy. This beautiful region was also home to William the Conqueror, who became the first King of England. If you’re an avid Vikings TV series fan as we are, then don’t hesitate any longer and book your camping trip to follow in the footsteps of the fierce warriors!

Hang on! A trip to Normandy isn’t only for the history fanatics, but athletes, families, young couples, solo travellers will also fall in love with Normandy. The Aiguille D'Etretat retains all its mystery, the seaside resorts of Deauville, Honfleur, and Cabourg will reveal their brilliance to the curious eyes of visitors who will marvel at the steps of the greatest celebrities such as Edith Piaf, Louis de Funès, Molière, Cézanne, Flaubert, Maupassant, Monet, and many others.

What is there to do in Normandy?

Camping in Normandy means enjoying the swimming pools, the sea and the river. Enjoy the many activities available from; fishing, boat rides, sailing boats to sand yachting on the long white beaches from the mythical Omaha Beach! Or discover the legendary Mont Saint-Michel, which offers an exceptional spectacle for any occasion, whether at low or high tide. Nowhere else but Normandy will allow you to experience such exceptional emotions! Normandy is not limited to the sea and its magnificent beaches; you can also do many forest walks and bike rides - young and old will undoubtedly have an amazing time!

Go Camping in Normandy!

We’ve put a list of some of the best campsites in Normandy – let your adventure begin! How did we choose the campsites? Quite simply, we have carefully screened the rental of the campsites, favouring those located in the middle of Normandy. Not too far away from the sea, but also not too close so you can explore Normandy and enjoy everything it has to offer.

  • The first campsite is L'étang des Haizes located near La Haye du Puits (Jersey). This campsite is ideally located between Granville, the landing beaches and Mont Saint-Michel. It offers large camping sites and many high-quality accommodation options, such as beautiful motorhomes and chalets. This campsite is rather eco-friendly and has joined an environmentally conscious association in order to refine its environmental qualities for the protection of the environment. If you want to get off the beaten track and discover the almost unexplored trails of Normandy, you can contact the campsite team, who will be happy to help you discover or recommend the "Norman secrets". This campsite is for families, couples or groups of friends.
  • The 2nd campsite is Camping de la Forê, which is located in the heart of the Jumièges forest. The campsite is often described as a rural, calm and relaxing place, in the heart of the Boucles de la Seine Regional Natural Park. This is a 4-star luxury campsite with a swimming pool, very close to the beautiful historic city of Rouen. The large campsite offers you large pitches and comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. Camping de la Forêt offers activities on site or in the surrounding area that are quite accessible, such as cycling and horseback riding. Don't forget to check out their glamping options!
  • The 3rd and final campsite we've chosen is the Haliotis campsite, perfectly located on the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, a symbolic destination in the region for many. Originally founded for families, the Haliotis campsite features a Japanese garden and offers children’s entertainment shows every day in July and August, so the kids will never get bored! The campsite has recently renovated its accommodation and now offers completely new mobile homes with everything you need (equipped kitchen...). The campsite also has some other quirks and surprises, such as its own mini-farm.

These 3 campsites are available for direct booking on the campstar website, so, don't wait any longer and book your next dream holiday!

Ready to go?!

We're booking our next vacation there, that's for sure! And why not attend the next Deauville film festival, or the commemorative ceremonies on the landing beaches, or simply admire the spectacular nature of the Normandy coasts. If you’re still in two minds, think about this: the Norman cuisine is so spectacular, your taste buds will melt.
