Camping in Munich - Holiday in the Bavarian capital

Not only the world-famous Oktoberfest makes Munich, the Bavarian capital, a trip worth. Tourists from all over the world appreciate Munich as a popular destination for city trips, as it is considered to be a "typically German" city. This is mainly due to Bavarian traditions such as the well-known Lederhosen (leather trousers). Foreign tourists usually do not know that the Bavarian way of life is not representative for entire Germany. They absorb the flair of the city enthusiastically, which is not only sprayed at the Oktoberfest in Dirndl and Lederhose.

What activities should you do in Munich?

One of the most popular sights in Munich is the pedestrian walk. Tourists can admire the large medieval city gate, the Karlstor. Furthermore, there are many trendy fashion shops, some of which, thanks to the roofing, invite you to shop and stay even in bad weather. For a snack in between, we recommend the many traditional Bavarian inns, where you can try typical Bavarian home cooking, such as white sausage or pretzels.

The unmistakable landmark of the city, the Frauenkirche, also deserves a visit. It has been the cathedral church of the Archbishop of Munich and Freising since 1821. One of the two towers, almost 100 metres high, is accessible and offers visitors a spectacular view of the entire city.

The Marienplatz right in the centre of the city is also great. It serves as a starting point for sightseeing tours and also as a town hall. Also exciting are the almost annual celebrations of the German record champion FC Bayern Munich, which always take place on the Marienplatz.

Apropos football, the Allianz Arena directly on the motorway, is the home of FC Bayern Munich and is considered one of the most modern and spectacular football stadiums not only in Germany, but also in Europe. Passing cars immediately recognize the club's home games by the red color in which the stadium shines during the games.

Even though Munich is not defined by the Oktoberfest, it still contributes significantly to the city's reputation. Millions of visitors, some from all over the world, come to the Theresienwiese to party in the Bavarian way. Especially during this time many hotels in Munich are fully booked and it becomes a difficult task to find accommodation. An alternative to hotel accommodation is camping in Munich. Especially for this occasion there is its own camping site, which offers a subway connection to the Oktoberfest. On an area of 150,000 m² it offers parking spaces for up to 1,500 mobile homes.

Where can I camp in Munich?

The Bavarian state capital also offers visitors camping sites on other occasions, in order to stay overnight close to nature and still be quickly in one of the largest cities in Germany. Especially in the northwest of the city there are different campsites that attract visitors with different offers. On the one hand, there is the youth overnight camp THE TENT, which gives young people the opportunity to stay among themselves and experience the wonderful nature at first hand in tents. Here you can meet travelers from all over the world in a relaxed atmosphere and still be in the city centre in 15 minutes. Also adult camping friends get their money's worth in Munich. Camping Nord-West not only offers direct proximity to nature, but also to the sights of Nymphenburg Castle and the famous Olympic Park. Animal friends such as dogs and cats on a leash are also welcome here. The camping site Camping Nord-West is open all year round and has a total of 105 pitches, 80 of which are for holidaymakers. Camping München- Obermenzing, on the other hand, has over 200 individual pitches and a small supermarket right on the site. In addition, there is a park of approx. 50,000 sqm directly on the site. Camping Langwieder See is idyllically situated in the middle of woods and fields and in the immediate vicinity of the lake of the same name. Great leisure activities away from the sightseeing tours do not let guests get bored. If you are looking for a campsite in the south of Munich, you will find it at Camping München- Thalkirchen. The location is unique, because the surroundings seem like a city park for people of all ages. As you can see, there are many different ways to camp in Munich. No matter which location you choose, camping in Munich offers you the flexibility that hardly any other place offers.

What activities does the Munich area offer for campers?

In addition to the usual activities offered by campsites, Munich's surrounding area can also shine with special highlights. If you are travelling by caravan, you can visit the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle. Built by King Ludwig II, the castle attracts around 1.4 million people every year from all over the world. In addition to carriage rides and guided tours, you can also simply sit back and enjoy the romantic architecture in picturesque surroundings. In addition, the Zugspitze, which at 2962 metres is the highest peak in Germany, is located in the immediate vicinity of the castle.

Another great destination near Munich is Lake Chiemsee. With an area of 79.9 km² it is the largest lake in Bavaria and the third largest lake in Germany. Lake Chiemsee is excellent for hiking. Especially the Kampenwand is a great mountain tour, which offers a great view of the Chiemsee and the surrounding area. You can also take a boat trip to Herrenchiemsee Castle, which is an ideal day trip. As you can see, Munich offers many exciting experiences for particularly adventurous holidaymakers!
