Berlin, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, is an ideal destination for campers.

The city offers a lot of variety. A variety of cultural, historical and architecturally interesting sights can be visited here.

Berlin is a colourful mix of cultures and therefore a very lively city. But nature lovers don't miss out either. There are numerous parks, green spaces and nature reserves in and around the city.

Rent RV in Berlin: campsites

Top campsites like Sanssouci in Potsdam/Berlin or Hotel & City Camping Nord Media make every camping holiday a real experience. Both sites are located directly on the water and surrounded by beautiful nature, but at the same time central enough to reach the city centre easily.

To save on parking fees in the city, it makes sense to use public transport. Sanssouci even offers its own transfer. This way you can enjoy Berlin in a relaxed way. Renting a bike is a good alternative to the bus.

RV Rental: Best time to travel to Berlin

Berlin has a temperate Central European climate. There are 4 seasons in Europe: Spring, summer, autumn and winter.

RV rental in Berlin: The winter months of December, January and February

The winter months are quite cool with temperatures at a maximum of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in January and February. These are not good conditions to rent a campervan.

RV rental in Berlin: The spring months of March, April and May

In the spring months of March and April, temperatures slowly rise to a maximum of 10 degrees. From May onwards it gets really warm. The early spring months are only recommended for hardy campers. The campervan should definitely have a good auxiliary heater. The nights are still very cool.

RV rental in Berlin: June, July and August

Now temperatures reach 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. Perfect conditions to rent a campervan. The temperatures remain summery warm in June, July and August. Swimming in the numerous lakes is possible during these months.

RV rental in Berlin: September, October and November

In autumn, the leaves fall, but this time is ideal for walking and to savour the last warm rays of sunshine. At the end of November, winter descends on the city and it becomes cold and unpleasant. It is no longer recommended to spend the night outside. Most campsites are closed in November anyway.

RV Rental: The greatest sights in Berlin and the surrounding area

Berlin has so many sights that it's hard to choose. The 10 sights you shouldn't miss can be found here:

Destination 1: Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate is the city's landmark. It is easily accessible with a campervan. When it was completed in 1791, it was just one of the countless city gates, but today it has achieved world fame, not least because of reunification. You should also visit Pariser Platz directly in front of the gate.

Destination 2: Berlin Wall Memorial and Documentation Centre

The Berlin Wall Memorial commemorates the time when Germany was divided into two parts after World War II. It consists of a memorial to the victims of the Wall, an information centre and a chapel.

The East Side Gallery with its colourful and sometimes thoughtful graffiti is also very typical of the city's history. Some of the old watchtowers are still standing here.

Destination 3: Reichstag

The government district with the Berlin Reichstag and numerous imposing buildings such as the Chancellery is also worth seeing. From the glass dome you can enjoy a magnificent view or watch the debates. You can also hire a guide who will tell you everything you need to know.

Destination 4: TV tower

Especially at sunset, the 368-metre-high tower is a highlight. Enjoy a 360° view of the city. A subsequent stroll through Alexanderplatz rounds off the tour.

Destination 5: Potsdamer Platz

Potsdamer Platz also has a turbulent history behind it. Between 1945 and the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was considered a no-man's land. Today, many new buildings such as the Sony Center are located on the square.

Destination 6: Kurfürstendamm

Shopping on the Kudamm is a real experience. The popular shopping mile is home to numerous shops of noble brands and large fashion chains. KaDeWe, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, is a small world in itself.

Destination 7: Humboldt Forum

If you appreciate modern and baroque architecture, you will really enjoy the trip to the Humboldt Forum. The baroque palace facades provide a wonderful backdrop for art exhibitions and museums. The famous collection of the Ethnological Museum is not to be missed.

Destination 8: Gendarmenmarkt

Not only can you shop at the Kudamm, but also at the Gendarmenmarkt. It is located directly in B-Mitte and is also one of the most beautiful squares in the city. The concert hall and two cathedrals are also located there.

Destination 9: Charlottenburg Palace

You can experience baroque splendour at Charlottenburg Palace. The impressive lake in front of the palace is worth seeing on its own. The picturesque park is a real highlight in summer.

Destination 10: Berlin Cathedral

The cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in the city. The richly decorated façade and the mighty dome are a real eye-catcher. Visitors are allowed to visit the dome and enjoy a view of the surrounding streets from above.

RV rental: The best places in and around Berlin

Around Berlin there are a number of very nice campsites where you can park your campervan.

Campervan hire in Berlin: Sanssouci

Probably the most beautiful campsite to park a campervan, caravan or van is the Sanssouci campsite. The site is located in a nature reserve directly on Lake Templin.

The sanitary facilities are modern and very clean. All the equipment is up to date and tasteful. This is a big plus for the site.

Here you can enjoy the countryside and the city at the same time with your camper van. Rent a bike to explore the beautiful surroundings of the lake. There are even guided bike tours through the city.

A tour with a water taxi is also highly recommended. Water taxi 3 stops at Babelsberg Park. A trip to Cecilienhof Palace is not to be missed.

Campervan hire: Hotel & City Camping North Media

Here you can also park your camper van or van directly by the water. A large number of beautiful trees provide shade for the camper in summer. The sanitary facilities are clean and in good condition.

You can also rent bikes nearby on this square. By public transport, you can be in the city in just 30 minutes. This is very convenient, as a campervan may cost a lot in parking fees.

If you like to get out on the water, you can rent a kayak. A boat trip along the canals is great fun in summer. The only drawback is the noise of the planes. Thanks to the ban on night flights, however, it only gets louder after 8 am.

Campervan hire: Gorinsee

This campsite is located, as the name suggests, on the eponymous Gorin Lake. Campers are welcome on the site with their campervans and vans from April to October. The rest of the time it is closed.

A partially integrated campervan will also find a nice pitch in the green here.

Hedges provide a lot of privacy. The showers and toilets are fine. The site offers a great entertainment programme. There are many sporting events in the summer.

The offer ranges from volleyball tournaments to children's parties and dance events. A highlight is the beach, which is only 50 metres away.

Boats cannot be hired, the lake is motor-free. But bathing there is particularly relaxing.

Camping site Himmelreich

Not quite as close to Berlin as the other sites, this huge campsite offers beautiful plots on a peninsula. Lake Templin has a four-kilometre-long sandy beach where you can almost feel like you're at the seaside in summer.

Fresh bread rolls are available daily in the restaurant. The sanitary facilities are well-maintained and clean. The pitches in the forest are cheaper than the pitches by the water.

Potsdam can be reached in just a few minutes by regional train.

To get to Berlin, you have to drive 50 km. However, this is not a problem, there is a lot to discover on the drive alone.

Campsite Pivert

This site is located 60 km from Berlin in the beautiful forests of the Westhavelland.

Lake Ferchesar-Hohennauen borders directly on the campsite. If you are looking for recreation, this is the right place for you.

The site is ideal for children. There is a baby changing room, a children's shower and a bathing area for the little ones. The petting zoo is also very popular. You can rent boats, bikes and e-bikes on site. The sports facilities are far enough away from the pitches. There is no noise pollution.

For dog owners, there is an extra dog shower with hairdryer. In addition, the four-legged friends can go into the water at a designated bathing area. There is also a sunbathing lawn for the owners.

Campervan hire: Berlin Gatow

This place has a lot of advantages. It is located in a beautiful natural setting directly on the Havel River. There is a pretty bathing area there.

It is ideal for campers who want to park their campervan or semi-integrated camper van between Berlin and Potsdam. A cycle path runs directly by the site and the boat landing stage is 2.5 km away.

The site is handicapped accessible, has individual showers and Wi-Fi. There is also a children's playground and table tennis tables. Groceries are also available on the site if you have forgotten something or want fresh bread rolls in the morning.

Campervan Port Berlin

Certainly not the nicest place to park your campervan, but it really is in the middle of the city. The campervan port resembles a large car park and is not much more than that.

Nevertheless, it is recommended if you are looking for a parking space in the middle of Berlin. It is also much cheaper than the other parking spaces. If you are content with the bare essentials, you will certainly like this place, as it is an ideal starting point for exploring the city.

There are toilets, washrooms and Wi-Fi. The condition is fine. At night, the place is quiet enough to sleep well.

XXLAGER Campervan Park

This place is one of the cheapest. If you are not deterred from parking your car on a company site, you will find a cheap opportunity for a holiday here.

The site is very safe as it is monitored with cameras. There are about 60 pitches in total.
