Corsica -The Isle of Beauty – Naturist Camping with Carribean Flair

by Raphael Wagner 24.12.2024

The ancient Greeks called Corsica “Kalliste“, which translates as “the beautiful“. They probably knew why!

Corsica is a dream island that can withstand any competition. The manifold variety of plants and animals is not only an optical pleasure, it is also very enjoyable for the nose. Napoléon Bonaparte, Corsica’s most prominent inhabitant, who was born here, claimed that he could recognize his island by its scent alone. Mixed with the bouquet of the turquoise blue sea, herbs such as rosemary or lavender, along with numerous other fragrant plants, release fragrances in the Corsican macchia, which bewitch visitors and encourage British islanders to describe the island as a “fragrant island”. The air is also full of birdsong and cicadas. And by the way one or the other gecko, the one or the other lizard looks for the tourists.

All this and much more speaks for camping on Corsica. In order to get even closer to the scenario of paradise, naturist camping is on the agenda.

Adam & Eve on the Island of Fragrances

What could be more logical than to indulge in naturism on an island full of natural beauty? Hardly any other Mediterranean island offers so many beaches and possibilities for camping as Corsica. The most beautiful beaches are in the east of the island. Here you can find water sports enthusiasts, bathing beauties and sun worshippers as well as families with children and naturists. This is often crowned with fine sand and an almost paradisiacal ambience.

For example, around 50 kilometres southwards of the island capital Bastia near Bravonne you have the ideal opportunity to enjoy naturist camping in the middle of a large eucalyptus forest. If you drive a little further south, you will arrive at Linguizzetta, where an approximately 4 kilomete long sandy beach with eucalyptus trees, cork oaks and a macchia filled with fragrance in the background await naturist friends.

Baghera Camping Naturiste and Camping Corsica Natura are situated in this idyll and offer a wide range of activities such as horse riding, tennis and other great leisure activities.

Even further south is Aléria, where not only a fine sandy beach, turquoise sea and camping but also naturism and a thalassotherapy centre await visitors. Discover those beaches by camping at Riva Bella Village .

About 40 minutes by car further south, naturist camping can be enjoyed at the quiet and beautifully situated Camping Eucalyptus. Nearby the very south is the Gulf of Porto Vecchio and with it the nudist village of La Chiappa. Here you can enjoy a campsite in the middle of a nature reserve and explore the beach for miles.

If you find all this too touristy, you will find one or the other romantic bay on the west coast. However, it is to be considered that bathing is temporarily not possible here because of the strong surf in spring and autumn. For a hike, however, this is the ideal part of the island.

A great campsite on this side of the island is Camping Lacasa – with 4 stars a true camping paradise

Only sunbathing is boring!?

If you are not a 100% sun worshipper or a round-the-clock water sports enthusiast and would like to get to know the island and its people, you should renounce naturism for a short time and get on your nerves. Corsica has even more than sun, beach and sea!

How about a trip to the southernmost city, Bonifacio? Here, on a narrow spit of land, a witness of the past is enthroned: the medieval citadel.  Furthermore, cafés, souvenir shops and fish restaurants lure to the port city which combines the old with the modern.

It doesn’t always have to be the coast! Such a detour into the interior of the island is always worthwhile. There is the former island capital Corte with a breathtaking oldtown that sits high on a rock with its citadel. Also in Calvi, in the northeast, a citadel resides on a rock ledge. Both the marina and the medieval old town are also worth a visit.

Those who are more interested in nature will go on wanderings. How about a tour to the cliffs of the island or to the excavations of Filitosa? Even more nature is to be found along the island mountains, for example at the old D84, along the former mule track. An old transhumance trail that leads over countless serpentines to idyllic places. If you like, you can continue to the reservoir of Calacuccia and the highest pass of Corsica, the Col de Vergio.

Admire other natural beauties in the form of bizarre rock formations in the Calanches – South of the city of Porto.

Who is on the way with children, cannot avoid to visit one of the two turtle farms.

And for those who like it even more sportive, just dive down. Off to some of the dive spots, such as Porto Vecchio or Centuri-Port. Colours, life and death lie close together here under water. Not a diving thriller! What is meant is: colourful reefs, impressive sea creatures as well as mysterious shipwrecks. A beautiful naturist camping site is Camping naturiste U’furu. Surrounded by forests, it has a unique location, yet is close to the beach.

Are you ready for the island?

Worauf also noch warten? Nicht träumen – fahren!
