Camping as a Senior – Life doesn’t end when you retire, it gets started!

Looking for motivation to embark on a new adventure? Don’t let your age get in the way of your adventurer soul. You can enjoy camping at any stage of your life, and we will prove it to you in this article about Why Camping as a Senior, is still Super Awesome!

Modern times make it easier

We all know that Camping is not really an invention of modern age, even though, the equipment and appliances are becoming more and more sophisticated from year to year. “Totally unnecessary” some die-hard camping purists would say, and they might have a point.

You don’t need much to camp, and that’s a big advantage. However, we also have to admit that especially with increasing years of age, the possibility to combine camping with comfort and amenities has its very big charms. Although some seniors may still have good memories of their camping adventures from their youth, the average body beyond the age of sixty (or even younger, if we are being honest) don’t really appreciate sleeping on an air mattress on the floor anymore. Some people are even tempted by the thought of dismissing camping as a form of holiday all together because they think it is reserved solely for the young crowd- Well, we’re here to tell you that it is completely wrong!

Comfort plus adventure. Perfect mix for the Senior Life

Despite the fact that you might no longer have a pain-resistant back, as a retired living your senior life, you do have plenty of time, still desire to explore (I’m pretty sure) and in most cases, budget enough to get more than just a tent and an air mattress. Which, let’s be honest, helps a lot. Motorhomes and campervans are then the perfect alternative! they’re the greatest combination between luxury and adventure. Since they’re equipped with every domestic amenity you can think of, you don’t have to sacrifice convenience over the fun of camping! Age really is no excuse to miss out on the camper life! And once the matter of comfort has been resolved, the list of camping advantages, especially as a senior, is endless.

The most obvious reason is, of course -Nature-

As a nature lover you can hardly get further into the green than on a beautiful campsite by the lake, in the shade of green trees. And once you have made the initial purchases of necessities, camping is much cheaper than a wellness hotel. Moreover, there is hardly any other type of holiday that offers you as many possibilities with regard to individuality, spontaneity and freedom. Just go wherever you want and whenever you want, because you have your own “little house” with you. If you are looking for relaxation and peace, camping is well suited for you as we all know that there is no place like a campsite when it comes to these aspects.

Need more motivation?

Well, many small things suggest that camping is the best form of holiday for Senior citizens. You can, for example, bring your pets along, and after all, a trip with a dog (or cat – yes, that’s also possible) is twice as much fun anyway! You shouldn’t underestimate the enjoyment and wonderful feeling of lying in your own bed or using your own dishes. Also, if you suffer from allergies or you generally just don’t feel like having bad buffet food, you don’t have to deal with these problems. While camping with a motorhome or a campervan, you always have your kitchen with you, and so you become your very own personal Chef. On the other hand, if you don’t feel like cooking, you can still stop on the road and go out for dinner. That’s how uncomplicated road-camping holidays can be.

Limitless destinations!

As a senior camper you have also no restrictions when it comes to destinations. Whether it is nature in the mountains or the sea, you can decide if you prefer to lay on a sunbed in Spain or in Lapland’s snow, whatever you decide you will not be able to complain about the lack of panorama. Particularly popular in Europe, for example, are Spain, Portugal and Italy, closely followed by France. Nonetheless, the absolute front-runner destination for your senior camping holidays is usually your own country. Besides the obvious budget-wise reasons and no language barriers, in one country there is more to discover than a single person can see in a lifetime.

Furthermore, thermal baths are always worth a detour and a great help with physical health problems of all kinds. You can find them nearly everywhere, so you can easily combine them with almost every trip.

Insider tip for Senior Life travelling?

In Eastern Europe (for example Bulgaria) there is not only good weather and beaches, but also extremely affordable prices and untouched nature in abundance.

As you can see, camping and seniors are not only a good match, they were made for each other! You cannot adapt other form of holiday so perfectly and individually to your own needs, while still maintaining such a degree of freedom and comfort at the same time. As everyone knows, life is far from over when you reach retirement age, quite the opposite- It’s just getting started!
