RV rental in Hobart: The capital of Tasmania is the ideal place to rent a motorhome. Located on the south-eastern coast of Australia, it is surrounded by a unique natural landscape. The city center combines colonial and modern architecture with countless museums, art galleries and excellent restaurants.

An RV allows you to discover many places around Hobart at your own pace. Mount Wellington, just 20 minutes from the city center, offers breath-taking views over Hobart, Bruny Island and even to Port Arthur on a clear day. On your way back down, you can take the car ferry to Mona for an afternoon at Australia's largest private museum.

In the north-west of Tasmania, you can go on bush walks in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park or encounter native animals such as wombats, echidnas, and wallabies in their natural habitat. To explore more of this island state, consider renting a 4WD vehicle which will give you more flexibility when visiting remote areas.

1. If you want to explore the city: Head into the city center and park near Salamanca Place. From here, you can explore the historic buildings, enjoy the cafes and restaurants, or visit one of the many museums.

2. If you want to explore the surrounding area: Drive out to Mount Wellington for some breathtaking views, or head down to the south coast to experience some of Tasmania’s best beaches.

3. If you want to do both: Start with a few days in the city, then head out for a few days exploring the surrounding area. This way, you can get the best of both worlds!

Hobart – The Best Things to See & Do

If you’re visiting Hobart for the first time and driving in from Launceston, it may be a little confusing getting around. The good news is that most of the key sights and attractions are within walking distance to each other or along the city center’s waterfront.

1. Salamanca Place & Market - Hobart’s Salamanca Place is a charming area consisting of Georgian warehouses constructed by British settlers in 1809. Today, these warehouses have been renovated into shops, restaurants, and cafes; this is the place to go if you want to try out some of Tasmania’s famous food and wine! The Salamanca Market is held in Salamanca Place every Saturday morning, boasting fresh local produce (try Tasmania famous oysters!), arts and crafts, vintage goods, jewelry and more.

2. Battery Point Sculpture Trail & Short Walk - Battery Point was one of the first areas to be settled in Hobart back in 1804. It boasts a variety of interesting shops and cafes along cobblestone streets with beautiful Victorian architecture. Battery Point is home to many artists, writers, musicians, and historians who have breathed new life into this old quarter. We recommend taking a stroll through the area whilst checking out the artwork on display as part of the Battery Point Sculpture Trail.

3. Mount Wellington Viewing Platforms & Short Walks - Mount Wellington is located just 15 minutes’ drive from Hobart city; it offers amazing views of the Derwent River below and across to Bruny Island on a clear day! Take your pick from a selection of walks that take between 1-3 hours (depending on fitness levels); make sure you see kunanyi/Mt Wellington Summit Lookout for panoramic views over Hobart, Bruny Island and Mount Field National Park all at once! Head up early to watch sunrise hit Mount Wellington or visit late afternoon for an unforgettable sunset experience; don’t forget your camera!
