Important information and facts about Paris

Campervan Hire Paris: Discover Paris with Campstar

Discover Paris with Campstar

Exploring the city of love on your own is a formidable adventure for all the senses. Especially if you want to rent a Campervan, you are clearly on the winning track in the French metropolis. You will find central parking facilities for your Campervan at permanent campsites. Embedded in a lot of greenery, your Campervan may be parked directly on the banks of the Seine or in the nature park on the Île de France. By renting a Campervan in Paris, you combine the experience of nature with the irresistible charm of this incomparable cosmopolitan city.

Public transport will take you to the world-famous sights in no time. Of course, cruising through the city in a camper van is an experience in itself. But Parisian traffic takes some getting used to for many people - you drive quite safely, but also quite fast. Those who are used to the mostly regulation-oriented leisureliness of many Swiss, German or Austrian cities quickly throw away their nerves in Paris. Rather, hire a taxi to take you from the camper van into the city.

Paris is so full of sights that even a list of the most important buildings can only remain incomplete. Nevertheless, we take a quick look at all the things you should definitely have seen in Paris. Look forward to an individual holiday when you rent your Campervan in Paris.

Parisian classics that are a must-see:

  • Tour Eiffel - Eiffel Tower
  • Arc de Triomphe - Arc de Triomphe
  • Louvre Museum
  • Notre Dame Church
  • Jardin des Tuileries Garden
  • Obelisk of Luxor
  • Basilica Sacré-Coeur
  • Museum Centre Pompidou
  • Tour Montparnasse

Parisian insider tips that you will rave about for a long time:

  • Père Lachaise Cemetery
  • Musée Carnavalet
  • Le Parc Floral
  • Promenade Plantée
  • Musée de la Vie Romantique
  • Musée des Arts Décoratifs
  • Les Catacombes de Paris
  • Atelier des Lumières

But the city of love is much more than the sum of its sights. You have to experience this city and get involved with it with every nerve cell. Probably the best way to do this is to rent a caravan in Paris.

Paris is always worth a visit

Like most world cities, Paris has no high or low season, but is popular to visit all year round. Nevertheless, there are of course seasons that are more suitable for travelling by Campervan due to the climate conditions. In fact, "springtime in Paris" has become proverbial, as the city has very generous parks and green spaces to offer, which are of course particularly enchanting in spring and at the beginning of summer. When the scent of peonies is in the air and the swans cross their necks in love on the Seine, you have to fall in love with this(r) city - and rent a Campervan.

In summer, many Parisians are drawn to the countryside or the sea. Even though the average temperature rarely exceeds 25 degrees, it can get quite hot between concrete and asphalt. But the many green spaces and the banks of the Seine provide refreshment. In autumn, the hustle and bustle returns to the streets of the capital. The weather is generally mild, but becomes increasingly humid as winter approaches. But even in the coldest months, the temperature rarely drops below 0° degrees. This makes this city interesting for campers renting a Campervan in Paris even in winter.

Celebrating festivals in the city of love

The density of events in this metropolis is naturally high, with around 1,600 events a year. So if you can rent a Campervan locally, you will really experience a lot. Every year in September, not only the world-famous Fashion Week takes place, but also the gourmet festival Taste of Paris. During this four-day event, the latest gastronomic trends are presented, the most famous chefs give cooking demonstrations and you have the opportunity to stock up on first-class products from French manufacturers. The Grand Palais on the Champs-Élysée is the venue for this festival of culinary delights. Fortunately, if you're travelling by camper van, you'll have plenty of space to transport your culinary souvenirs.

Paris - what you must have seen

As in every city, there are also fixed points in the French capital that you simply can't get past. The city's landmark, the 324-metre-high Eiffel Tower, is probably the most obvious. Those who climb it not only get a stunning view, but the background and history are also documented by means of interactive screens, touch screens and information boxes. Notre-Dame, the most visited sight in Paris, will not be in top shape again until 2024 after the terrible fire in 2019, but you still have to be there, on the Île de la Cité.

The Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre is located on the highest point of Paris, the summit of the Butte Montmartre. It houses the largest ceiling mosaic in France. The Arc de Triomphe is the gateway to the Champs-Élysées, considered the most magnificent shopping street in the world. From its terrace you can enjoy a unique panorama. The Sainte-Chapelle is a jewel of the High Gothic and enchants with 1113 stained glass windows.

The Louvre, one of the most famous museums in the world, houses art treasures from all over the world. You should see the Mona Lisa or the Venus de Milo live at least once in your life. Near the Champs-Élysées awaits the Grand Palais, a sprawling building of stone, steel and glass. The Palais Garnier impresses with its ceiling painting designed by Marc Chagall and its lavishly decorated façade. The Musée d'Orsay houses the largest collection of works by Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.

Enjoying Parisian flair while walking around

Renting a camper van in Paris means parking your home on four wheels while the curious explore the city. This is best done on foot, as it draws the eye to the myriad details that make Paris what it is - a city of art and love. Here you can immerse yourself and simply let yourself drift, drink a café au lait and be tempted to go shopping. But where is it most worthwhile?

Montmartre - artists' village in the city

The artistic heart of Paris beats at Montmartre, where 19th century painters and writers created works of world renown. The inspiration that lies in this magical place begins to unfold as you take the funicular from the 18th arrondissement up the hill of Montmartre. You'll overlook the network of winding alleyways and catch glimpses of hidden treasures.

The Musée de Montmartre provides information about the famous masters who worked here. On the nearby Place du Tertre, you can look over the shoulders of active artists and perhaps even have a portrait made. At the highest point of the hill rises the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Promising alleys branch out from its forecourt, and you should wander through them. Ask for the Musée de la Vie Romantique, one of the prettiest in Paris.

Latin Quarter - intellectual capital of the city

On the Rive Gauche, the left bank of the Seine, the 5th arrondissement designates the intellectual centre of the city. The density of students and academics renting small flats here is commensurate with the sum of educational institutions. The famous Sorbonne University and the elite Collège de France and Lycée Henri IV schools are surrounded by numerous cafés and restaurants. The Panthéon is on the way, as is the National Medieval Museum and the Jardin du Luxembourg palace park, part of the Palais du Luxembourg, where the Senate meets.

Beyond the city limits of Paris

Even though Paris has an almost inexhaustible smorgasbord of special features to offer, it is still worthwhile to travel beyond the city limits. As a camper with a Campervan, you are, after all, mobile and unbound.

Visit Versailles

The bombastic castle of the Sun King Louis XIV will impress you just as much as the magnificent parks that surround it. The baroque building stretches over more than half a kilometre, and the associated open spaces originally covered several thousand hectares. On a guided tour of the palace, you will experience the dimensions in which rulers once lived. During a relaxed picnic in one of the enchanting spots of this historic park, you can let the flood of impressions take effect on you. Versailles is located about 25 km west of Paris.

Trip to Disney Land Paris

Millions of people have already immersed themselves with shining eyes in the oversized comic world to attack. Fairytales and adventures come to life in this magical kingdom. Be enchanted by sparkling shows, dazzling parades and magical encounters with Disney characters. Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios Park Studios, Disney Village and Golf Disneyland are located on a 2,230-hectare site that also includes several hotels, as well as residential and commercial districts. Disney Land Paris is located about 32 km east of Paris.

Adventures at Parc Astérix

If you prefer to experience Comix in Gallic style, drive about 40 km north-east in your camper van and reach Plailly with its fantastic Parc Astérix. Here, big and small Gauls experience exciting adventures in Roman-Celtic style. They meet Vikings and other heroes and also get to join the legion themselves. Then it's a matter of overcoming challenges that help to make you indomitable yourself.

Romantic Road Trip to Giverny

A place of pure romance, tastefully draped with immortal works by Claude Monet, is the enchanting village of Giverny, about an hour's drive northwest of Paris by Campervan. Stroll to the water lily pond and realise where the expression "picturesque" comes from. For Monet was inspired by the beauty of this tranquil gem. Don't forget to take souvenir photos of this wonderful excursion on one of the bridges painted by the Impressionist himself. If you rent a Campervan in Paris, you can also stay where you like. You may also want to stay a few days in this quiet oasis of beauty, the Campervan makes it possible.

What you should know when renting a Campervan in Paris

As a camper in a Campervan, a lot of new things await you in the city of love. You can choose between different ways to get there. The most popular ways to reach the city on the Seine are by air or rail. If you are flying in from Germany, you can expect the flight to take about 90 minutes. Arrival is at one of Paris' main airports, Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle or Paril-Orly. A little more remote, but popular with budget airlines, is Paris-Beauvais-Tillé airport, 84 km from the capital. Le Bourget airport, only a few kilometres away, is mainly used for air shows.

Travelling by train

Like any cosmopolitan city, the French metropolis has many railway stations to offer. Six terminus stations serve as the final stop:

  • Gare du Nord
  • Gare de l'Est
  • Gare de Lyon
  • Gare d'Austerlitz
  • Gare Montparnasse
  • Gare Saint-Lazare

Tolls and petrol costs via app

As is the case almost everywhere, motorway tolls are also charged in France, the average price being around €0.07 to €0.16 per kilometre. Signs with the words "Section à péage" mark toll stations. Motorway sections around major cities, as well as throughout Brittany, are free. The speed limits are in line with European standards, but if you commit a violation, it can be very expensive (up to €3,750). Automobile clubs advise guests not to drive a car or camper van in the capital itself, as the nervous driving style of Parisians takes some getting used to. As far as petrol costs are concerned: With the handy app "Me geolocaliser", it is very easy to check the respective locations of petrol stations and the current petrol prices.
