Despite its size, Lisboa has over 600 000 inhabitants, the city has a lot of charm and also some quiet corners where you can relax. Due to the numerous beautiful campsites in and around the city centre, a holiday with RV here is really fun.
Lisboa is located directly on the mouth of the Tagus River on the Atlantic Ocean. The picturesque bay and harbour are wonderful destinations for excursions. The old harbour was already built under Roman rule. No less a person than Julius Caesar granted the city its rights at that time.
It was only during the Second Crusade that Alis Ubbo, as the settlement was then called, became Portuguese. In the 1500s, Lisbon rose to become one of the most powerful cities, goods from all over the world were loaded and sold here.
Even today, the tremendous history is visible in many places. Although Lisboa lost much of its influence from the 18th century onwards, many of the magnificent buildings still remain. Visiting the most important monuments takes several days.
If you want to relax from the tours, Lisbon's numerous beaches invite you to a bathing holiday. The RV can be parked in the car parks of the most famous beaches without hesitation. Lisboa is one of the safest capitals in the EU.
The best time to travel to the city for a holiday with RV is from March to September. The Portuguese metropolis has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. From March onwards, night-time temperatures no longer drop below 10 degrees Celsius, good conditions for a trip with the RV.
Holidays in Lisbon - Temperatures
The coldest month of the year on the coast is January, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 14 degrees Celsius. In February and March it remains quite fresh at 9 to 17 degrees. From April onwards, the thermometer rises sharply. The warmest months are June, July and August with just under 30 degrees Celsius. Now a holiday with RV here is a real pleasure, even the nights are pleasantly warm. Even in October, temperatures above 20 degrees are not uncommon. It only gets cooler from December onwards.
Holiday in Lisbon - Rain
The summers on the Iberian Peninsula are really very dry. You should always bear this in mind when on holiday with RV. Water for showers can become scarce at any time. In three months as a result, it rains only one day.
You can now safely do without rain gear or a waterproof awning for the Campervan. It rains a little more in the spring and autumn months, on average 8 days. The most precipitation falls in January with 11 rainy days.
RV rental Destination 1 - São Vicente de Fora Monastery
This monastery is one of the most impressive buildings in Portugal. It dates back to 1147 and is an Augustinian monastery. King Alfonso I is considered one of the founders. The monastery is dedicated to Saint Vincent of Saragossa.
RV rental Destination 2- Castelo de São Jorge
For centuries, the Portuguese kings used this castle as their residence. Unfortunately, parts of the complex were destroyed in 1755 during a massive earthquake. Thanks to expensive renovation work, the building is now almost completely restored.

This Carmelite monastery was built from 1389 to 1423. It is considered one of the most important Gothic buildings. Nowadays you can still visit the walls of the church.
RV rental Destination 4 - The Aqueduto das Águas Livres
The aqueduct, a Roman water conduit, has a length of 19 km, making it one of the longest structures from this period. Part of the pipeline runs across the Alcântara Valley. To bridge the valley, a construction of 109 arches was built. In total, the bridge is 66 m high.

A very special attraction for visitors is the Elevador de Santa Justa. It connects the city centre with the Chiado district. The ride doesn't take long, but it's a lot of fun.
Holiday in Lisbon - Lisboa Camping & Bungalows

The supermarket is well-stocked and carries all the essentials you need for a holiday with a camper van. The sanitary facilities could be better, but are sufficient. Lisbon is easily accessible by bus.
RV rental - Orbitur Costa de Caparica
This campsite is also ideal for visiting Lisbon. It is very safe and has many shady pitches for the RV. The beach is only 700 m from the site and is easily accessible by bike.
There are surf schools and numerous restaurants nearby. The mini-market has a good assortment and pets are welcome. Wi-Fi is available at the reception.
Tip for renting bikes: Bikes are available for rent in Lisbon. Gira is the largest bicycle rental company. You can also rent e-bikes and trekking bikes from them.
RV rental - In Lisbon club Camping CCL
The site is clean and well-maintained and the sanitary facilities are also in good condition. The site is located near the Orbitur Costa de Caparica and is therefore also by the sea.
The small supermarket has a well-stocked counter and sells all the important staples at fair prices. Lisbon is easily accessible by public transport.
By plane: Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport is regularly served by all major airlines from Germany. The two terminals are located only about 7 km outside the city. Several bus lines connect the airport with the city centre.
By train: You can travel to Lisbon by train. However, the distance is so great that you have to reckon with several days of travelling and overnight stops in between. The route is too strenuous in one piece.
By RV: As with the train, travelling to Lisbon by RV is possible, but really far. The distance is over 2500 km. The pure driving time without stops is 24 hours.
