Renting RV in Stuttgart offers a particularly flexible way to get to know one of Germany's largest wine-growing regions.
Stuttgart is located in the southwest of Germany, in the centre of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Nestled in a valley basin, the vineyards even reach into the city centre. Many beautiful squares, parks and fairytale castles adorn the capital of Baden-Württemberg.
The cultural offerings are also very extensive. Among others, the State Theatre Stuttgart, the world-famous Stuttgart Ballet and the State Opera are located here. Throughout the year, numerous festivals and celebrations take place in the state capital, attracting visitors from all over the world. The Swabian metropolis is also an ideal starting point for excursions to the Black Forest or Lake Constance.
Renting a campervan also means being particularly flexible and independent when travelling in and around Stuttgart. There are plenty of campervan parking spaces available in Stuttgart and the region.
The Stuttgart campsite, for example, is very close to the city centre but still in the countryside. The campsite is located directly on the Cannstatter Wasen, on the edge of the city on the Bundesstraße 10. This is also the site of the annual Stuttgart Folk Festival, the second-largest folk festival in Germany after the Wies'n in Munich.
From here, it takes just 10 minutes by car to reach the heart of the city. The campervan site is surrounded by shrubs and trees. Only recently, the site was completely redesigned by landscapers as a green oasis. The Neckar, Stuttgart's most important "waterway", can be reached within a short walk. Wilhelma, the zoological and botanical garden known across Germany, is about a 15 minutes' walk from the campsite. Likewise, the Mercedes-Benz Museum, very close by, is a must for car lovers.
In Stuttgart, all the possibilities of a metropolis are open to locals and visitors. When renting a campervan, sightseeing tours can be undertaken and the city's many buildings, museums and monuments can be viewed. A visit to one of the numerous theatres, galleries and the opera is worthwhile or you can attend a performance of the State Ballet.
The Wilhelma, one of the most beautiful zoological-botanical gardens in Europe with more than 9,000 different animal species, is also worth a visit. Sporty visitors, on the other hand, have the opportunity to cycle in the forests around the city and to jog or rollerblade in the parks. Furthermore, a wide range of bathing and swimming facilities are available when renting a campervan.
When renting a diesel-powered campervan, you should definitely contact the city of Stuttgart and apply for a special permit. As a rule, an exemption will then be granted free of charge.
The Hanns Martin Schleyer Hall and the Porsche Arena are an indoor duo. Here you can experience stars of the national and international music scene and be present at exciting sporting events and great shows.
A relaxing bath in the sparkling water of the well-known mineral springs gets you fit for upcoming discovery tours - the mineral baths are also very close to the campervan site.
A visit to the impressive SI Experience Centre, near the airport, is also recommended. Two world-famous musicals have their permanent home here. The SI-Experience Centre is also home to Stuttgart's casino and the Schwaben-Quellen, a 6,000 m² adventure and vitality pool.
Also worth seeing are the ethnological Linden Museum, the Württemberg State Museum in the Old Palace, the art gallery in the glass cube at Stuttgart Palace and many other institutions worth visiting in the city and the surrounding area.
When renting a camper van, a trip to the TV tower is also highly recommended. Here you can get to know the first building of its kind in Germany. At a height of 211 m, you can enjoy a magnificent view all the way to the Alps.
Renting RV and discovering the nearer and wider region starting from the Baden-Württemberg capital is just as exciting. Numerous attractive destinations are worth a visit. For example, you can reach Freudenstadt, in the northern Black Forest, in just over three quarters of an hour by campervan. Here you can marvel at the largest market square in Germany.
If you continue your journey by campervan, you will reach the Black Forest High Road from Freudenstadt after a few kilometres. With the campervan along the high road, you will cross over into the southern Black Forest. There, in the winter months, numerous winter sports hotspots invite you to go skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing.
The Hochfirstschanze, in the village of Hinterzarten, is the largest natural snow jump in Germany. Not far away by campervan, the winter sports area around the Feldberg, which is almost 1,500 m high, is a popular destination for all winter sports enthusiasts. Here you can also rent skis and other winter sports equipment.
Even in the warmer season, the entire Black Forest is an attractive destination to be discovered by campervan. Outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and enjoying nature are particularly popular here. Of course, countless natural beauties also entice you to visit. Names like Mummelsee, Schluchsee or Titisee are the epitome for many Black Forest travellers to spend their holidays close to nature in a campervan.
If you travel further by RV, to the south of Baden-Württemberg, you will reach the "Swabian Sea". Affectionately called so by the locals, Lake Constance is also a wonderful destination for all travellers who are on the road with a campervan. In the summer months, the "White Fleet", the excursion boats on Lake Constance, can take you to Austria or Switzerland. Of course, there are also moorings on the flower island of Mainau and the vegetable island of Reichenau. On the Mainau, by the way, you can also park directly with the campervan you rent.
Back in the Stuttgart area with the campervan, the nearby city of Ludwigsburg is also worth a visit. Here, highlights such as Ludwigsburg Palace, with the "Blühendes Barock" (Blooming Baroque) garden show - including a fairytale garden - are a special attraction for young and old.
By the way, the "Bärenwiese" is very close by. It is also possible to rent a parking space for campervans here. A total of seven campervans, also over 8 m in length, can be parked. Ludwigsburg city centre is within walking distance from the site. There is a public transport connection nearby. Electricity and fresh water supplies are available on the barrier-free site. The chemical toilet can also be disposed of here, as can grey water. Dogs are allowed.
